I intended this little bit of writing to be the end scene of a much larger, possibly book-length, story about the Rangers' last case, their deaths, and their journey to the afterlife. This would have been a flashback, a little end piece. An artistic, thoughtful little note to go out on. I suddenly got inspired and I wrote it out. I think it works on its own. And I hope that it makes you sit quietly and just daydream for a while...

Matt Plotecher is an excellent Rescue Ranger fanfiction author who wrote an excellent little story called Plots. It was about a mad spider named Victoria who intended to punish Dale & Foxclove for a crime they hadn't committed. After reading it, I had an idea for a sequel. Victoria returns one year later for a second try. Dale and Foxglove find themselves in a deathtrap of terrifying simplicity. Their only hope lies with Foxglove finally accepting her true self.

I think the story's followable enough on its own, but it's definitely worth checking out the original too.

After the incredible rush of finishing "Ready... Aim... FIRE!!!" (the last few chapters of which were written in a lightning-quick white heat), I looked back on how much I liked the juxtaposition of John Nowak's Widget and my character Crisscross. They're complete opposites in a lot of ways, and yet they're similar in just as many, too. I liked writing their dialogue and having them play off one another. A few weeks after the story came out, I had the idea for a short tale featuring just the two of them, kickin' it 'My Dinner With Andre' style. (If for no other reason than I just really love writing for Widget.)

Simba has returned to the pride lands and the outlanders have joined the pridelanders. The meerkats have also found a place of their own to live peacefully, and, apparently, everything is as it should be in the pridelands. However, from this apparently calm and peaceful atmosphere new and subtle complications will arise that will put the whole kingdom at stake; find out the price to let go of your responsibilities just to be true to yourself and be who you are supposed to be when Simba finally realizes the bigger picture of it all and what it means to be really alive.
