After seven years of collecting cobwebs on my hard drive, my first furry novel is finally finished.

Yes, first. Before Ghost Story, before Bartleby's Descent, I had the idea for a tale about a young arctic fox boy who is adopted by an eccentric inventor and introduced to a world of love beyond what he'd ever imagined. There are fetishes aplenty here, but they're all presented as cuddly, loving and joyful as possible. The overall theme is tolerance and happiness: loving people for their differences.

This story was like therapy for me. It was a way for me to invert my own childhood. Instead of being an only child with a controlling mother, I wrote about a boy finding happiness with a loving father and many fun siblings. Writing from both the son and father's viewpoints was wonderfully enriching for me. I came to genuinely love all these characters. I hope you will too. :)

I wrote this way back in 1999 when I was still in high school, so be kind.

This is the first really serious writing I ever did. I'd dabbled a bit before this, but most of what I produced was a mountain of mistakes with tiny gleams of talent occasionaly shining through. I worked my _ass_ off on this story. I think it took me nearly a year to write. As soon as I finished, I asked everyone I could lock eyes with to read it and offer suggestions. That, more than aaything, helped my writing grow.

This story was the first time I fell in love with my characters. Whatever they felt in the story, I felt too. More than a few times I'd be crying my eyes out at the keyboard. This is still how I write, and I'm convinced that truly caring about your creations is the only way to make others care about them too.

I've done very little revisions on this. It's raw, and obviously a first attempt, but I still love it. It's not a commentary on any one group or cause; it's about *all* pointless conflict, everywhere. More than anything, I hope that when you read it, it makes you feel something real.

It was about a mad spider named Victoria who intended to punish Dale & Foxclove for a crime they hadn't committed. After reading it, I had an idea for a sequel. Victoria returns one year later for a second try. Dale and Foxglove find themselves in a deathtrap of terrifying simplicity. Their only hope lies with Foxglove finally accepting her true self.

I think the story's followable enough on its own, but it's definitely worth checking out the original too.
